Garage Sale

Charis and I held a garage sale to fund raise for Charis' school scholarship program. Lots of parents brought items to donate and on Friday and Saturday, Charis and I sold a lot of stuff. We raise $504! And had a little fun in the process.

Cultural Challenge

At Charis' school, they have a Cultural Challenge towards the end of the year. It is a presentation done completely by the kids that highlight something that they love to do. The parents are asked not to coach the kids or pressure them in anyway. Normally only the older kids in her class are offered a spot in the presentation to perform solo performances but Charis' teachers knew this would be so fun for her and an area that she could shine.So we asked her if she would like to do a performance and she immediately said "YES!". She wanted to sing and chose "Jumbo" - a song she learned last year at VBS. We did as asked and did not try to sway her decision. She asked to practice (on the church stage) a couple of times but then never asked again. It was hard not to ask her to practice or make sure she knew what to do.Apparently, she would not even perform the whole song for her teachers during practice. But they told her that if she wanted to sing without practice she could.She did great!!! I could not have been more proud of her. I love this side of her and will continue to look for ways to let her express herself.

Garden veggies & moving

We rent a great house in a wonderful neighborhood, near all of our favorite places. And we get a great deal on rent because we know the landlords and have agreed to do some work on the house and lots of gardening. This year we planted thirteen vegetable and berry garden beds.

The first of our summer crops.But sadly, the landlords have decided to sell the house. So we may not get very many vegetables after all and we have to move. We are trying to turn it into a positive and are looking at buying a house.The house we are looking at buying has railroad tracks behind the property, so Kris and Charis spent sometime in the house waiting to hear the train. When it finally came 2 1/2 hours later, it was really no big deal. We really like the house and love the back porch.

Nut's Wedding

One of Kris' best friends got married this weekend. They asked Kris to be the best man and Charis to be the flower girl. It had a peacock with a little mardi gras or costume theme. Doesn't she look great!It was really relaxed and laid back, so it took a while to get the wedding started. I am so lucky that I remember to bring bubbles for Charis to play with. She was so excited to be the flower girl and really wanted to see the bride. Kris and Charis walked down the aisle together. She did a great job! She threw lots of flowers and even got a laugh out of the crowd by throwing a few handfuls over her head. She really does know how to steal the spotlight. She was so cute!When she was done, she came and sat next to Skot and me. She was great, paid attention and stayed quiet during the ceremony.The beautiful bride and groom!Right after the ceremony, we all got on bikes and did a bike parade. Kris pulled the bride and groom in a pedicab and I pulled Charis on a trailing bike. It was fun!Party, music and dancing!And of course cupcakes!Congratulations!
