Patch

So, we started wearing the patch and it is more work than the glasses. She is suppose to wear it for a least two hours and being doing something using fine motor skills to practice her eye hand coordination. Charis is really good about trying to wear it and obeying us, but she does not like it. She learned the first day that she had to ask before taking it off. It seems like she will go about a half an hour with it on with no problems but then I think her left eye gets tired and she begs to take it off.

So far the only way to keep it on for longer is to distract her with something fun. Or meal times seem to work also. But everyday she gets better at dealing with it. I am so proud of her for being so good with all these new challenges.

Robyn (Grammy) has agreed to make her a cuter one that will slip onto her glasses and fit her better. And I think it will be less aggravating because it will not need a strap. Thanks Robyn!

First Vision Care

Charis and I went to Stars in Your Eyes for her first vision care. Dr. Emily tested her vision and it has improved! It is almost 20/20 with the glasses, which is really good news. Then we went through a few eye exercise and introduced Charis to a eye patch.


We went to the toy store after the appointment and got her some of the toys that she needs for her exercises.


And we spent the rest of the day playing games, coloring, painting and exploring her new toys.


She named her new blue soccer ball "Jumpy" and pretends that it is a person. I think it is really cute.


There are lots of more new toys that I am sure we will be posting about soon. Thanks Mom, we got Charis all the toys and things she needed!

First Movie

Kris and Charis went to see her first movie in the theater.

They went and saw Wall E at the Alamo Drafthouse.


Kris said she had a lot of fun and did really well until the very end of the movie.


Charis sat on Kris' lap for about half of it because she was not heavy enough to keep the seat down. But then when she wanted to sit in her own seat, he just held it down for her.


Sorry about the blurry picture, but I have to have that image (even if it is blurry) of her in the big seat all by herself watching her first movie.

Kris' B-day BBQ

On Sunday, Kris and I threw a BBQ party for Kris' birthday. Kris got a keg from someone for fixing their bike and we had everyone bring food for the BBQ. We set up tents because it was over 100 outside.


Most of the people rode their bikes and we had somewhere around 70 people come.


Everyone stayed outside for the most part and ate, drank and played games.


A few of the kids played inside some too.

Charis was so excited about all the kids but Mia and Charis played together most of the night. They get along great and love playing together. With Charis' glasses, we all think that they look a lot alike. Mia is a year old but they still do really well together, which is great because I really enjoy talking with Ruthie (Mia' s mom).


Around 11, Kris and some of the people rode their bikes around and set off fireworks that he got for his B-day.

Irie Bean with Mommy

Tonight, Irie Bean (Kris and Charis' coffee shop) had a customer appreciation night. Kris, Nut and Skot also set up Guerrilla Cyclewerxs and worked on bikes. So Charis and I rode our bikes down there.

Of course, Charis could not resist playing with Daddy's tools...


And helping Daddy work on bikes.


She also instantly made friends with several little girls.

Reading

I love that Charis will just go get a book and sit down and "read" it!


It makes me so excited to see this. I was cleaning the kitchen and she got a few books and made a comfy place for herself. And then started "reading" the books. I hope she always loves to read.

First Major Haircut

Charis has had her hair trimmed before by Katrina but I cut a lot off of it this time. I even layered it a little. Her hair was so long it was getting hard to wash, comb and keep out of her food.


I let her watch Dragon Tales while I was cutting her hair so that she would stay seated. But next time, I will remember to have her wear at least some pants, hair got everywhere.


This is my first time giving anyone a haircut. So for the first try I think I did pretty good.


She would be cute no matter what I did to her hair!

Oliver's B-day Party

One of Charis' friends, Oliver had his 2 year old birthday party and he invited Charis. We all went swimming and then back to Oliver's house for cake and presents.

All the kids circled around the cake and then again when it was presents time.


Jeremiah and Caleb are the two boys in this picture and they are also Charis' friends. They all play really well together for toddlers.

July 4th - Party & Fireworks!

Then off to the main event - We went to Tim's sister's house. A lot of Kris' friends came and we swam, talked, ate lots of really good food and set off fireworks.


Charis and I swam for a long time but she loved the raft.


We gave Charis her 1st corn on the cob. She loved it and torn into it like a little animal. It might be the toughest thing she has even eaten.


Next we got out the fireworks!!!


Charis got to have a few sparklers with me. And Daddy and her got to set off a few also.

July 4th - special snack

When we got home from the park, Kris let Charis help make a special snack.

Bananas....


Peanut butter...


& chocolate!


She loved helping out and really enjoyed the snack.


Then Grammy and Granddaddy came over and gave her a new coloring book and crayons. Thanks!

July 4th - park

We had a lot planned for July 4th and we had a great day. First we needed to wear Charis out so she could take an early nap. So we rode our bikes to the park.


She has been a little shy about slides but after I went on one with her, she wanted to go on the big spiral slide over and over.


She is also learning to climb the big spiral ladder...


and weird ladder- like thing. I think this things are meant for big kids. She does not like much help so, as you can she I am not touching just standing by to catch if she fell.


She also loves the swings and is getting good at the big kid swing.


Then off to walk on the wall with Mommy.


And with Daddy on the big wall.


Next ABC and 123 in sidewalk chalk.

Lastly, a game on hide and seek with Daddy. Counting...

Never let go

This is a song that Clark and Natalie sang on Sunday morning and apparently Charis really liked it. She just started singing it. She kept getting "shy" in front of the camera, but I caught a little. I wanted to share it with them so I am posting it here for all to see.
