Roller Skating

Bicycle Sport Shop finally had their holiday party. I was actually really excited about it because it was at a roller skating rink and this would be Charis' first time skating. (If you did not catch it, I love to skate) However, it is not Kris' favorite but he was doing a good job of trying to get excited about it.
After a little concern that they may not have Charis' size skates, which they did. Charis and I went straight on to the rink. She had no fear! And was very happy to be learning this new skill.
She did so well in a very short amount of time. "Uncle" Skot and I took turns skating with her and she loved it! Kris even skated a little with her and they both did pretty good - since this was both of their first times at a skating rink.We played red light, green light & limbo & a couple other games that I had not seen before - even though we did not win anything they still gave Charis a prize and we had fun! This was the only time she fell not on purpose (she insisted on falling like everyone else during red light, green light) - it was because she could not figure how to squat and roll under the limbo bar. But she just got back up and started skating again.She got so comfortable on the skates that she did not need any help and even started dancing by herself to the music. So cute!

And before we left, of course I taught her how to spin in circles with me.

Reading Curious George

I love it when Charis reads us books. She really loves reading, even if it is just from memory right now. She gets almost every page correct on the video.

This video is really long... feel free to stop watching. It is all just her reading Curious George. Also, YES she does think almost every book is by Dr. Seuss.

Riding Bikes with Daddy and water table

Kris spent some time teaching Charis to ride her bike today.
They had a lot fun and she is getting better every time she rides a little.Then Charis wanted to play with her water table.

New Food

Kris is eating from the Eat Right for Your Blood Type book, to see if that helps with his health. So we have been trying some new foods. Charis has been resisting a little but has ended up liking it in the end. She does not eat the meat/fish but here is one of our new meals.

Chores

We are teaching Charis to pull her own weight - hanging her own clothes.
She is getting really good at it. Kris and I are proud and Charis loves helping with anything - cooking or hanging clothes.

Family Night

Kris got a giftcard to a Mexican restaurant from someone at work. So he took Charis and I out for dinner. I brought home flowers from work because Charis loves flowers. We usually don't get that many nights together without having a lot to do. So it felt like a very special night for all of us.

Learning to spell

On Wednesday Feb. 4, 2009 , I was talking to Kris about a boy in Charis' class. And I must have said boy a few times, Charis kept saying boy, boy, boy, then said boy - "B, O, Y" - boy. I was shocked and very proud. This is the first time she has every spelled a word without us repeating letter by letter for her.

Then the next day she asked me how to spell girl and then spelled it back to me. And did the same with car. This day she spelled TOY and BOY all by herself.

I am so proud of Charis and love that she is learning so much at school!

Skateboarding

We have had a busy weekend, but Daddy took so time out today to skateboard with Charis. They had a great time!Kris would ride Charis down the driveway and then have her run back to do it again. Charis got so excited about it!

Pancakes for Shelter

The Austin Children's Shelter was running a fundraiser... pancake breakfast. Charis and I invited some friends along on Saturday morning. It was a few dollars for all you can eat pancakes and all the money went to the Children's Shelter. Good pancakes for a good cause with good friends - what could be better.Sorry no good photos, but we had a good time.

Austin Children's Museum

Charis has been asking to go to the Austin Children's Museum a lot lately. They have Wednesday night as a donation only for the community so Charis and I went before Daddy got home from work. I did not enjoy this exhibit as much as some of the others. But Charis seemed to like it.
And the regular stations that are always there are always fun. Charis loves their kitchen! We spent a lot of time in there.Charis and I did really enjoy one part of the exhibit...the tools and construction. And the hanging bar and I even got her to do a hanging flip with my help. She loved it!
But I think her favorite part was the vet office because it had doctor tools in it! She loves playing with doctor tools and pretends with her work tools at home all the time that she is a doctor. So having "real" doctor tools was a lot of fun!
And we ended our trip with a little dancing by the train station.

Return of the Jedi

Kris has been watching Star Wars with Charis for the first time. They enjoyed a good time together watching Return of the Jedi and cuddling.
